Gum disease is considered one of the most common reasons behind adult tooth loss. In the early stage of gum disease, you might have a few or no symptoms. If the condition is left untreated, the bacterial infection can worsen over time resulting in tooth loss. In order to treat gum disease and revitalize oral health, our dentists at Colorado Wellness Dentistry use an advanced treatment method, i.e., laser dentistry.
When you visit us for your dental checkup, our dentists will examine and look for any signs of gum disease. In cases of gingivitis, a common and mild form of gum disease, we will carry out deep cleaning, and the patients only need to continue proper brushing and flossing at home. In cases of periodontitis, a stage in which the gum disease is severe, surgical intervention is often required. At our practice, we treat this condition with an FDA-approved treatment called LANAP (Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure). With LANAP, diseased tissue can be removed without surgery, destroying the bacteria, and revitalizing the gums.
Basic Steps of the LANAP® Protocol
When you suffer from periodontitis, your gums begin to separate from your teeth, causing pockets to form and fill with bacteria. Left untreated, the bacteria will start to attack the surrounding bone, leading to bone loss and eventual tooth loss. Our dentists will start the procedure by inserting a small fiber between the tooth and the diseased gum. Using highly specialized laser light, we will remove the accumulated bacteria and infection from the affected areas. Following the therapy, the gum tissue will begin to regenerate, creating a tight seal between the gums and the teeth, extending the life of the teeth.
LANAP offers numerous benefits, such as:
o Gum disease treatment that is less invasive.
o Faster recovery times than traditional surgical treatment.
o Reduced bleeding, requiring fewer stitches than traditional surgical treatment.
o The ability to resume normal activities immediately after treatment.
o With LANAP treatment, you will be able to preserve more of your gum tissue and have better oral health.
