Our office partners with licensed sleep physicians to help diagnose patients suffering from obstructive sleep apnea and bruxism (teeth grinding). For patients who experience symptoms, they offer a take-home sleep study that tracks their sleeping habits. The data is shared with us to determine what the best treatment options are.
Sleep apnea can disrupt sleep and leave you feeling exhausted and drained after a full night’s rest. In patients that experience sleep apnea, the airway becomes blocked during sleep after the muscles in the throat relax. The body’s natural response to the lack of oxygen is to startle you awake, triggering the muscles to contract and the airway to reopen. This can occur several times during the night without you even knowing, which is why you feel tired the next day. Symptoms of sleep apnea:
Our office offers the SomoDent sleep appliance to treat sleep apnea as an alternative to CPAP therapy or corrective surgery. The device is worn at night and holds the lower jaw forward slightly to help keep the airway open. For more information click here.
